My Latest Art Piece

I have finally gotten back into doing a little art!! Over the last year I have been going with my Mom to her art group, which meets on the first Friday of each month. I have made it to all but two meetings I think, and so the group has kind of adopted me in. It is a small group of just seven, including me.

We wanted to do a group project where everyone makes their own thing, instead of making things to swap with each other, like they did for a year with a recipe book. The only thing was, we all used a shadowbox, and the subject, or theme, had to be something that flies. Birds, butterflies, flying fish, whatever you wish. I think everyone except me and my Mom finished theirs that night. I did, but it took me going back to my Mom's house and working until 2am! I love how it turned out.

In the closeup you can see that the words "Can You Fly in Your Dreams?" are stamped onto the outside of the glass. You can see the shadows of the letters on the background behind the bird. The bird is stamped from a foam stamp my Mom made. I stamped it with Jet Black StazOn ink onto a piece of foam core, and then cut it out. That was a feat in itself! The wings were cut out of Grunge Board, from the Tim Holtz line of distress products. I just put a little greenish metallic paint on them. The shadowbox was painted with Tim Holtz' Distress Crackle Paint in the "peeled paint" color. I used spanish moss, I think is what it is, in the bottom, along with some twigs. The bird is wearing a real metal crown (charm size), not paper.

Love your latest posts. I haven't looked here in awhile, so it was a pleasant surprise.
Your crow is just fabulous! I want to make a crow piece, too, haha.
